Some more capsule reviews. Too pressed for time to even do a header image!

Bishop #2 (Writer: Saladin Ahmed, Artists: Reese Hannigan & Mario Santoro, Colorist: Federico Blee, Marvel Comics) – Just bog standard modern superhero comics. Bishop’s sister is here, he wants to tell her something but can’t because they keep running, they beat one villain from the future but a new one shows up. The new one, whose name I’ve already forgotten after reading it yesterday, is supposed to be a cross between Toad & The Blob and giant because of the latter, but the art never makes it clear that’s the case. I liked the first issue; I’m hoping we get back to that level. 2 stars

Blüdwire #2 (Writer: Pallie Paul Allor, Artist: Ermitis Blanco, Colorist: Brittany Peer, Mad Cave Studios) – The two sex androids on the run continue their run. Strong art with a great concept and very solid writing. A minor complaint with this ish is it feels like it lets the cliffhanger ending carry most of the narrative, with the rest of the issue not advancing too much. 4 stars

DC’s Hawk-Girl Summer #1 (Too many to list, DC Comics) – This was aggressively fine. Not a single one of the eight stories in this is a standout. Sometimes these seasonal books from DC are duds. This one is. 2 stars

Dead Teenagers #5 (Writer: Jude Ellison S. Doyle, Artist: Caitlin Yarsky, Oni Press) – This is the wrap up of this series, and what a series it is. It’s one of my favorites on the year. A fantastic premise with good characterization, plotting, & art throughout. Read this whole thing, dammit. 5 stars

Doomquest #3 (Writer: Ryan North, Artist: Francesco Mobili, Colorist: Frank D’Armata, Marvel Comics) – Doom continues being sent through time, with this issue him being in George Washington’s body. Ryan North has an argument for being the best writer in comics today. This isn’t even his best issue in this run, but it’s still extremely strong – creative, funny, and interesting. The Alex Ross main cover of Doom crossing the Delaware is tremendous as well. 4.5 stars
