Reviews of 58 Issues!!!1

Archie #1 – Fun enough, but I don’t think it’s going to hold a candle to the Waid/Staples 2015 run. It looks like it’s going to be 3.5 stars

Babylon Cove #4 – Might be the best issue of the series – you get interesting character development here, and it looks like we’re setting up the finale nicely. 4 stars

Barbara Gordon: Breakout #5 – This is losing its way, if it’s not already lost. Narratively, it’s kind of a mess. 3 stars

Batman #13 – Solid part of Bad Seeds. 3.5 stars

Batman Bad Seeds: Sunset #1 – I loved the start for this event. If this was Marvel, I’d probably already be writing its obituary. As it’s DC, I hold out some hope. 4.5 stars

Batman & Robin: Year One: Dynamic Duos #2 – Really solid story, incorporating Catwoman. 4.5 stars

Batman/Superman/Weird Al: World’s Weirdest #1 – I got this as an oddity, but it’s actually funny. Congrats on pulling this one off. 4 stars

Bludwire #3 – 4 stars

Chachu #2 – Fantastic noir-style work continues here.. 5 stars

Clayface: Celebrity Dirt #3 – Lost a touch of juice here, but still very good. 4 stars

Crowbound #1 – Spooky ass fantasy stuff, great art, interesting concept. 4.5 stars

Daredevil #6 – Continues to be a great detective story. 4 stars

The Dogsitter #2 – Cute romance. 4 stars

Doom Patrol #1 – If you want a kooky take on the superhero genre, here you go. 4.5 stars

Doomquest #4 – North’s great Doom exploration continues. 5 stars

Dungeons & Dragons: Total Party Killers #2 – Fun, chaotic adventure story. 4.5 stars

Fixation #1 – Interesting concept, but it didn’t really grab me. 3 stars

The Folk of Dooney Hollow #1 – Slow start but interesting idea behind this. Good art. 3.5 stars

The Forever Home #1 – Great scifi concept & start. Very intrigued for #2 on this. 4.5 stars

Giant Robot Hellboy Returns #2: Mediocre ending. 2 stars

Legion of Super-Heroes #1 – Tremendous start to this, and I’m not a reader with a Legion background. 5 stars

Marvel Gold ’76 #1 – This went better than I thought. Good little one shot with secondary characters. 4 stars

Nano #2 – I see how this ties into issue #1, but it took til the last issue to make it clear how that worked out. It didn’t work in a “oh, my brain has clicked into place and everything is great” way, it was a jarring “oh, that’s why this other narrative was happening and I was confused the entire time.” 3 stars

Neighborhood Watch #5 – A little let down by the finale – it felt compressed for time – but this was still a strong finish to a great story. 4 stars

Odin #4 – Shit has hit the fan here. 4 stars

Of the Earth #5 – Fantastic horror, great art, great concept, love it.. 4.5 stars

Only the Savage Are Left #2 – 3.5 stars

Only the Savage Are Left #3 – 3.5 stars

Prima Apparata #1 – Really weird concept that I think was executed very well. 4.5 stars

The Punisher #6 – 3.5 stars

The Punisher #7 – 3.5 stars

The Punisher #8 – Deadpool tie-in started here. This whole Punisher arc is solid, but Punisher as a character isn’t doing much for me. 3.5 stars

Red Roots #4 – Weird scifi/fantasy concept. 4 stars

Seven Wives #3 – Why the hell did I only get three issues of this? 4.5 stars

Showdown #3 – This deserves a bigger post, but it’s a great concept series with tension and . 5 stars

Sicko #1 – 3.5 stars

Sicko #2 – Well, the first issue wasn’t the best, but this one picked up. 4.5 stars

Six of Us #1 – What if Friends with a murder mystery aspect? It works, at least early. 4.5 stars

Skate Ali #2 – 4.5 stars

Skate Ali #3 – So much heart & verve here. I adore this series. 4.5 stars

Stitch #8 – It’s cute, so sue me. 3.5 stars

Supergirl: Survive #2 – 4.5 stars

Supergirl: Survive #3 – 4 stars

Supergirl: Survive #4 – Great alternate take on the superhero in a darker realm. 4 stars

Superman: The Stranger #1 – Fantastic look at immigrants. 5 stars

Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Coastal Chaos #1 – These Tales TMNT books are delightful, I’m glad they’re doing another run of it. 4 stars

Teen Titans #1 – Good variant take on this title. 4.5 stars

Tomb of Apocalypse #1 – The “murder at the Hellfire Gala” story told you you’d be getting a classic Wolverine/Jubilee story, but this is the one that is at least starting off that way. 4 stars

Wade Wilson: Deadpool #8 – 3.5 stars

Warbird #1 – Solid spy thriller. 4 stars

Witness Point #2 – Much improved from #1. Less “look at all our wacky ideas,” more “ok so let’s do some detecting.” 3.5 stars

X-Men Outback #2 – 3.5 stars

X-Men Outback #3 – 3.5 stars

X-Men United #4 – 3.5 stars

X-Men United #5 – 3.5 stars

X-Men United #6 – If this series is just going to be two good issues and then one that is just unsuccessful, well, it’d at least be more interesting than just being fine. 2 stars

Young Hellboy: Thrilling Sky Adventures #3 – Again, this is Indiana Jones-style serial adventuring hidden behind kiddo Hellboy. That’s good – it’s fun! 3.5 stars

Zatanna #5 – Great art, narrative’s fine but I would like it to commit to what feels like a full arc. Are we just doing four issue arcs? Can we not do that?. 3.5 stars
